Two Door Cinema Club & Delphic Live at HITEC on 10th August was one of the most successful indie live music events so far in 2010. More than 1000 fans turned up in both groups’ debut in Hong Kong.
“It’s like Clockenflap indoors!” said one fan.
The event was warmed up by local indie electronica duo Pixel Toy, who is well-known among Hong Kong’s regular gig goers. Their 20-minute performance even impressed some of the newcomers in town.
“They are very good for a local band. I’ve heard some of the Canto-pop songs here but I am not impressed. Actually they are very good, not just for a local band, but as a band!” Jerri Hu, an audience who has just moved to Hong Kong few months ago said.
At around 9pm Delphic showed up on stage and delivered an hour long energetic electro dance act. Fans were jumping up and down. Everybody was dancing. Their 80s revival dancefloor tunes heated up the already butane-hot stage for Two Door Cinema Club, whose enthusiastic gig filled with pop-dance songs attracted a lot of young girls rushing up to the stage. They played almost every song on their debut album, Tourist History. Finally, they performed two more songs, Come Back Home and I Can Talk to end the perfect mid-summer night.
If fans can’t get enough of good music events of this scale, don’t worry. Dashiell Nagata of Untitled Entertainment, organizer of this event who also previously brought Kings of Convenience to Hong Kong few months ago, revealed that they are planning to organize at least a show every two months in town. Definitely a good news to Hong Kong’s indie music fans.
