OONAMI JAPANESE AND OYSTER RESTAURANT
Located right across the street from the Cadogan Street Temporary Garden, Oonami Japanese and Oyster Restaurant is conveniently situated in the heart of Kennedy Town and serves up some of the regular Japanese dishes like sashimi, udon and tempura. The shop is quite eye catching with its wall of mono-tiles at the front.
First, the sashimi – they weren’t exactly in their freshest state but when it comes to raw fish, freshness is number one, so we moved on to other food stuff. Luckily the cooked dishes were much more satisfying – the foie gras and sea urchin fried rice was fragrant and lovely, so was the Tempura which was covered in a thin batter and fried to the right state of crispy. Their udon in fish soup is also worth mentioning – the noodles were smooth in the way that would allow you to slurp them up like a child and the fish soup was nicely flavored.
For Japanese food cravers, this is probably not the place to go for sashimi or sushi, but their warm dishes are definitely worth a try.

I love and enjoy food and have had a lot of dining experience across wide range of Japanese restaurants in London, Hong Kong and Malaysia.
In terms of quality of sushi and sashimi, I find Oonami one of the best in town. In terms of range of sushi and sashimi, they may not be able to offer some unique/special kind of raw fish which one or two top notch Jap rest in town do.
Personally I enjoyed all my visits there. But one needs to be aware that, being in Kennedy Town does not mean it is cheap. In my opinion it is value for money for Jap food lover but you need to know your stuff before you can realise and agree with that.
