KATHMANDU CUISINE
Kathmandu Cuisine is a cozy little place hidden behind the Belchers that serves home-made Nepalese food. Once inside, you'll be greeted by a warm atmosphere created by red cushions and scarlet tablecloths. Candlelight adorns the tables and various exotic ornaments adorn the walls. This isn’t a posh place but its what Nepalese food fans are looking for – an unpretentious place for good authentic Nepalese cuisine.
Kathmandu oddly tries to infuse some international dishes from countries like Spain or India into the menu- perhaps to give it more variety, however the Nepalese food is what people come for. Their Tandoori Mix (something we picked for the variety of meat), is gently spiced with organic Nepalese herbs and the meat is tenderly grilled. The mutton curry is also recommended. The meat is bathed and soaked with a sauce that is satisfyingly rich and hot. The rice that comes with it is also lightly fragranced with saffron and goes perfectly well with the flavorful dishes. As for dessert, the rice pudding is definitely worth a try. It is not too sweet or heavy and its portion is just right as a finishing touch to a relatively strong flavored meal.
Also, try the Mango Lassi which is a nice compliment to the meal. It is made with fresh fruits and adds a zesty, fresh zing to the rather heavy dishes. Kathmandhu is a great place for a relaxing gathering with friends.
