GURU INDIAN RESTAURANT
This Indian restaurant on Lower Elgin street is elegant in it’s simplicity and has a nice view of the quaint sloping street. The restaurant has a romantic and somewhat upscale atmosphere with its dim lighting and white linen tablecloths. The warmly colored walls are decorated with Indian-motif paintings. The interior is somewhat generic but not unpleasant.
The food is above average and reasonably priced. The chef’s recommendation was the lamb rack on a bed of potatoes with a side salad. It was bursting with spices and grilled flavor. We also had yummy samosas and a paneer dish with green pepper and assorted veggies. The big tasty chunks of paneer were lightly pan-fried but it didn’t seem like the portion was big enough. The curry on the chicken Makhani seemed less creamy than normal but it was probably meant to be a bit lighter since their focus is on 'healthy dining'. There's also a great fish curry.
