LOCK CHA TEA SHOP
Lock Cha Tea Shop is an elegant traditional Chinese tea house situated inside the green Hong Kong Park. The place serves gourmet Chinese tea priced from $38- $10,000/pot and very good vegetarian dim sum.
The tea house is designed in typical Chinese style. There you can find Chinese screens separating the restaurant into several areas. The place is also decorated with traditional calligraphy hanging on the wall. You can find several dark wood dining table and seats where you can enjoy a relaxing meal with your intellectual friends.
We are lost in its extensive menu of tea and therefore we ask the waitress for suggestion. He recommends us the Pu-erh Tea as a safe and budget option. The waiter starts to serve us by presenting a traditional Chinese tea art in front of us. He rinses the tea pot and tea leaf with hot boiling water in a traditional way which they call "washing". It is something quite unusual in Hong Kong and you don't normally see it in typical Chinese restaurats here. We try the tea and wish we knew how to appreciate it properly. Anyway, the taste is good and it matches well with the oily dim sums.
All of the items on the menu are vegetarian food. We have the Egg Crepes, the Pan fried Dumplings, the Vegetarian Fried Rice and a Steamed Dumplings. The Crepes is rather oily and blend, and so are the Dumplings. But the Fried Rice tastes good and all the veggie ingredients match very well. However, the portion of the dish is too small. We prefer the Steamed Dumplings there because they are so fresh and not oily, although the skin could be a bit thinner After the meal, it is perfect to wash away the oily taste in the mouth with a sip of tea.
In sum, Lock Cha Tea House is a good place with a comfortable environment where you can enjoy a nice cup of traditional Chinese Tea and healthy vegetarian food as a little escape from the busy life. Its classical decoration as well as the extensive menu of tea and dim sum make it a perfect choice for both locals and visitors to have a taste of traditional tea house dining experience.
