NICHOLINI’S

This famed Italian eatery at the Conrad Hotel above Pacific Place is the ideal spot for an extravagant splurge on superb Northern Italian cuisine. The décor is understated opulence with gold and pale yellow the colours of choice, while the atmosphere is one of classy sophistication in a carpeted hush and service is all that one would expect from a 5-star establishment. The floor-to-ceiling windows with views into Central and two levels of floor-space create a feeling of space but the overall vibe is warm and intimate rather than cool and trendy. Filled with suits over lunch, Nicholini’s morphs into a true Casanova of a spot in the evenings. Its cosy booths, central leaf-motif-ed ceiling feature and candlelight are sure to get romances a-kindled.
With an extensive a la carte menu showcasing Italian food in all its glory (‘Tortello stuffed with Porcini and Fontina Cheese in Sausage and Thyme Sauce’ anyone?) the weekday set lunch special also sees you spoilt for choice. Either go the whole hog with a 3-course meal including an antipasti buffet to start for HK$368, settle for 2-courses skipping dessert for HK$318, or simply enjoy the antipasti buffet and a dessert for HK$278. The antipasti buffet covers all the Italian favourites with excellent bruschetta and a fine Caprese salad. The main portions for the set lunch are on the small side but are exquisitely presented and cooked to perfection, with fish, meat and pasta options (try the unusual Wild Mushroom Lasagne). Bookings are definitely required.
