18 GRAMS
18 Grams is a small Australian-style corner cafe in Causeway Bay opened very recently. The name of the cafe refers to the weight of grinded coffee to make an espresso. Like its name, the tiny cafe is light and minimal in its green-themed, naturalistic decor, which makes it a relaxing and casual place to hang out.
Run by Glory Coffee, a local coffee importer and roaster which also runs a City & Guilds approved training center for Baristas, 18 Grams knows where to source the best beans from the globe and is able to roast them fresh locally. Sure their staff are also qualified professional baristas too.
We ask the staff what the most popular items are and they suggest Piccolo Latte, Flat White and Shakerato. Piccolo Latte is actually latte macchiato. It is very smooth and the artsy milk froth stays as you sip your coffee. Flat White is a special Australian and New Zealand coffee drink made with steamed milk from the bottom of the pitcher with a shot of espresso. Therefore, it tastes like a regular cappuccino with velvety liquid microform. Both coffee drinks are heavy in milk but you can definitely taste the strong espresso flavor. Finally, Shakerato is espresso blended with ice and it is a good refreshing summer coffee drink that wakes you up immediately. In 18 Grams, you can also have tea, smoothies and juices.
The regular crowd in this small cafe are mostly business associates working around the area and coffee connoisseurs. Of course you also see casual customers stopping by for a relaxing break amid a busy shopping day in this cute oasis in Causeway.
