LIN HEUNG TEA HOUSE

Lin Heung Tea House is the one of the oldest Cantonese restaurants in Hong Kong. With almost 90 years of history, this Yum Cha place has kept most of its valuable traditions – old furniture, hand-written menus, antique fans, bowl-like tea cups, as well as its signature dim sum dishes.
Entering the place, you will be amused by how packed it is. Don’t rely on a receptionist to get you a table as there aren’t any. When dining here you have to do it the traditional Chinese way: Look for a table where the occupants are finishing their meal; wait intimidatingly near the table until they are done; as soon as they start to leave, swoop in and grab the seats as quickly as possible. Now you're all set and ready to start ordering and picking dishes from the carts being wheeled around you. As you're tucking in, 60 year-old waiters will keep pouring you hot water for the tea so as to make sure it’s of the highest temperature (which also means quality).
Lin Heung features some of the classic dim sum recipes of yesteryear that are slightly hard to come by these days. These include items like the siu mai with pig pâté and their big steamed chicken buns as well. Their famous tea and Lotus paste buns and are also some their specialities.

This place is, like, in all of the tourist directories of Hong Kong and there was an episode of lonely planet filmed there too...I guess that's why one needs to put up with the crowds...
