KOH THAI

This tight venue on Wyndham Street has been reinvented so many times we’ve lost count. Recently this space has been reborn into a swanky yet casual venue that serves Thai classics.

The ground floor of the restaurant is for those who want to see and be seen. You’re so front row center on Wyndham Street you feel like you’re eating with the taxi drivers. There are big white leather seats, ceiling fans and color washed walls. Move towards the back and you get a bit more privacy. The upstairs has a completely different, more upscale feel. This second level has dark sexy décor featuring dim lighting accented by candlelight. It’s colored with rich fabric in red, velvet and linen. The room echoes if it’s busy and it can seem lively and noisy.

This is a good restaurant despite the crowded space and the somewhat mismatched décor. After all, what’s not to love about a place that offers the classic ‘bucket of Thai whiskey and coke’? There’s reggae and island music playing in the background harkening you back to the beaches of Koh Samui or Phuket.

The Thai cuisine comes in copious portions and is reasonably priced. We really loved the chicken with garlic chili and basil leaf. The Pad Thai, pineapple fried rice and green chicken curry is equally as good as the other Thai restaurants in town.

This place has been very popular since it opened and we got rave reviews about the food from different people. Hopefully this time, this small space on Wyndham has found a winning formula.

This is by far the best Thai restaurant in town. It's authentic Thai, they use quality ingredients, their portions are excellent and every dish is cooked to perfection. The Thai beef salad should win an award. I'm now ordering some of the more unusual dishes on the menu rather than sticking to the green curries etc, and they are just superb.

I have a bad review on Koh Thai regarding specifically the level of service rendered by - surprisingly - their manager (apparently called Anne), from whose position we normally tend to expect more. I was there last friday for dinner and, after finishing dinner, politely asked the referred manager for the drinks menu. After waiting for a while and receiving nothing, we asked it to another waitress. Nothing again, and the restaurant wasn't too busy at that moment. Then, we asked AGAIN to the manager, who returned after a few seconds with the menu in hands, saying to us "Only now you've remembered?".

We were not so sure of what she meant with that sentence, and also could not be bothered to know, but whatever she meant, that was for sure an inappropriate tone and approach to any customer (on a side note, not that it really matters, but the manager was notoriously busy at that night flirting with the passers-by).

So we just grabbed our things and left to the other restaurant next door, where they sure have a well trained manager who knows how to behave like one.

hi
thanks for the positive review and do you need a picture for the site?
thanks
