DROP

If you’ve made it to Drop, chances are the sun will be rising shortly. The only other place to go after Drop is Wanchai, Homebase or the Hotdog or Kebab place nearby. Though Drop tends to be a late-night hangout, it’s also one of the best small clubs in Hong Kong.

Though housed in a tiny space, the place is modern and groovy. To the left is a large bar which takes up half of the club. It’s sometimes a war trying to squeeze your way in to get a drink. To the right of the dance floor are two small table areas which at times become a VIP area. To the back of the dance floor is another rectangular seating area for people buying bottles. There's also a very small primo booth right near the entrance. Though you will probably be too trashed to notice, they also decorate the place candlelight and flowers. And there are free olives!

As soon as you walk in, you’re on the dancefloor, the DJ is spinning amazing music and you can’t help but dance. In fact, everyone at Drop is dancing. The whole club is sweating, gyrating, throwing their hands up to the collective groove of the music. Resident DJ Joel Lai rocks the house twice a week and special guest DJs get flown in from time to time.

The intimate (borderline claustrophobic) venue is often so tightly packed, that you could get your ass grabbed, and you just have to shuck it off as it might have been an accident. It's also a kissing bandit's heaven. Often people will end up snogging people they've only just met, or several people they've only just met- sometimes even before you know what someone's name is.

Drop is actually a members only club but oftentimes non-members make it in. You can either enter with a member or stand there looking fabulous until someone you know gets you in.

The crowd at Drop is eclectic, clubby, and fashionable without being uppity or pretentious. If you find yourself at Drop, chances are, you’ve probably ingested a mind-numbing about of liquor and perhaps other mood-altering substances as well. Forget having a conversation at Drop. Just drink and dance the night away.
