DRAGON-I

In the past years, this sexy venue has been heaving with models, celebrities, fashionishtas, tycoons, posers and on-lookers who were somehow wiley enough to squeeze past the door bitch through the velvet ropes. Dragon-I has an amazing marketing strategy: Feed the models and give them free drinks. Duhhh, No wonder the place is plastered with model wallpaper!

Dragon-I has been the most popular club in Hong Kong hands down since it opened over 6 years ago. Besides the high concentration of beautiful people that frequent the place, there are many reasons for it’s success.

First of all, D-I hosts a lot of special events which usually involve bringing in big name DJ’s and entertainers. Usually Dragon-I DJs spin funky house or anything that gets the bootie shaking.

Quote about a recent party- “It was so crowded the dancefloor was like quicksand – best avoided and once entered, impossible to extract from. It took half an hour to get a drink at the bar, though fortunately we had a couple of tables. Would have to say it was absolutely rocking”

Secondly, the decor of the club is chic without trying too hard. The space is well laid out and has a good energy flowing through it. The décor can be described as modern and sensual with predominant colors of red, black and white. There are touches of Chinoiserie like the big surreal birdcage outside, silky hanging lanterns and carved wooden screens. It’s is a medium sized club which makes it intimate enough to socialize, but big enough to have room to move.

There are three areas. There’s a outdoor area with several tables adorned with mod white chairs. Just inside, there’s an area which has several circular red velvet banquettes, a raised DJ booth and a medium sized dancefloor. The third section is dark, rectangular and flanked by a long bar. There’s no real dance floor, but everyone just kind of dances wherever they want (including on the tabletops).

Dragon-I has a strict door policy. The owners want to ensure that “the right kind” of people get in because in club-land, your crowd is your currency. A good crowd ensures that people will continue to patronize your establishment.
