TAZMANIA BALLROOM

Tazmania Ballroom is the latest venture brought to you by the creators of Dragon-I. This upscale pool hall has 3 pool tables at the heart of the venue and is a decent place to play pool, lounge and people watch. In keeping with the playful spirit, on Tuesday, there’s ping-pong night (No we not talking about the Thai bargirl variety. It’s real ping-pong.)

This open venue has craggy black walls, high ceilings and gold plated pool tables. The over all effect resembles a futuristic luxury cavern. There's an interesting lighting scheme with neon tubes on the walls and large hanging lamps that are almost works of art.  There are limited seating areas by the bar and by the DJ booth.

As you mount the stairwell into the bar, you'll find large open space that can be used as a dance floor. On very busy nights, the pool tables can mechanically ascend and be suspended from the ceiling to clear more space for a bigger crowd or for dancing. Slick! There’s also an outdoor terrace with a great view of Wyndham Street for smokers and people who want to be al fresco.

The crowd consists of the Kee club/ Dragon-I usual suspects: models, bankers, socialites, rich kids and Euro sophistos drinking champagne and bottles of Belvedere. There’s also the occasional local pop star/ celeb coming in with their entourages. There’s a fair bit of posing and air-kissing going on here.

The music varies but it’s not too bad. Last time we were there, they were playing old school R&B from the ‘90’s (like Foxy Brown for example). The music makes people move and groove but it’s not overly aggressive for a lounge. It's possible that this venue will become a good place for celebrated international DJ acts in the future.
