LILY
Lily resembles a secret speakeasy during the glamorous prohibition era. The stylish bar is owned by the Buzz Group who run members-only venues like Volar, Halo and Roxie. Lily surprisingly has an 'open door policy' which welcomes all to enjoy fine cocktails, bar snacks and a wide array of Cuban cigars.
The interior of Lily draws elements from Parisian salons of the early 20th century, pre-war Supper Clubs in old American cities, as well as speakeasies during the prohibition era. Parts of the open bar resemble a grand Titanic-style cruise lounge. Lily features old-school leather lounge seating and banquettes, and a seated bar at the center. There is also a French-style private back room with a terraced view of their double-height twin dining venue, Bloom.
The most unique feature of the venue is the secret cigar room in the back. The entrance is a black door with a boar's head on it which blends seemlessly into the wall. Walk along a dim hallway and you come to the cigar tasting room where you can pick out premium Cuban cigars in all sizes.
The smoking room is elegantly appointed with wood walls and leather chairs. The ventilation is excellent in the room and the air is always fresh and never stale. There's even an old-fashioned telephone where you can call for drinks. The drinks come in a secret lift which is built into the wall. Light up with your torch, sit back into the comfy leather arm chairs and experience the olafactory delight of smoking the meticulously wrapped tobacco in fine leaves. It's the perfect venue to discuss men's issues and world domination. No wonder the place is often frequented by high-powered businessmen.
Lily’s cocktail menu is small and focused on forgotten but still-sexy classics, from the mojito-like Southside ($90) and 23 Year-Rum Old Fashioned ($110), to obscure Tiki-favorites Donga Punch ($90) and party-starters Espresso Martini ($90/$110). Our favorite is the fruity, yet strong Old Cuban ($110) made with 23-year rum, lime, mint, Prosecco and a splash of 7up. Ask for a 'Dealer's Choice' for other non-listed signatures. Otherwise try classic cocktails or feel free to ask the bartender to make you a bespoke concoction.
At Lily, food is served till 2am. You can get something small like Foie Gras Torchon ($98), or a dish that's hearty and filling like the Spicy Noodles ($128). The Roasted Bone Marrow with a side salad ($85) has also been getting a lot of thumbs-ups from the customers. We also love the North Carolina-style Fried Quail with homemade corn bread ($125).
Opened just a few months ago, with minimal marketing and promotion, Lily has been 'the' place to see and be seen. The main reason is because the venue exudes a sexy allure and a unique atmosphere which is rare in Hong Kong.
