GECKO LOUNGE AND WINE BAR

This small candlit rectangular bar is one of the liveliest places to lounge out with a group of friends. Low banquettes line the walls and there’s a bar in the back with a DJ booth off to the left. A lot of events go on here like private parties, art and photography exhibits and up to two nights a week there’s live Jazz. The musicians stuff themselves at a corner near the entrance and everyone dances away despite the lack of space. The place really gets jumping on Jazz night.

A lot of Europeans frequent this place particularly French, since the owner is French, and there’s definetly a contingent of people with an art-edge. The crowd often spills out onto the alleyway that the bar is tucked into which is perfect because it’s actually hard to not feel claustrophobic whilst crowded into that tiny space. There’s a colorful round alfresco booth at the entrance and some chairs so people can lounge outside.

Gecko’s sells the strongest kind of absinthe which is legal in Hong Kong. It’s one of the only places in town that sells the real deal. Whether it be partying with the green fairy, dancing ‘Le Rock’ with the Frenchies, looking out for live jazz music- Geckos is an all around great hangout for a random night.
