THE SATURDAY PAMPER

The ultimate kick-start to the weekend has to be a Saturday jam-packed with pampering. Heeding my own advice, yesterday I paid a visit to Sutherland-Chan – Hong Kong’s only Registered Massage Therapy Centre to fix a week’s worth of stress and poor-posture-induced aching shoulders. Then I dropped by the Tala's Hair and Beauty Salon (on a friend’s recommendation) for some damage control on my split ends and a touch of polish for my fingers and tootsies.

Ever wanted piece of mind that your massage therapist actually knows what they’re doing before clicking and cracking you back into shape? Hailing from Canada (which apparently has the strictest regulations on massage therapy worldwide) the Sutherland-Chan Centre only employs Registered Massage Therapists that have each undergone two years of full-time training. They offer a wide range of massage including relaxation, clinical, sports, pregnancy, infant and lymphatic drainage. Despite being partial to my gentle relaxation massages, I asked Ky, my therapist to do some clinical work on my shoulders, which had been giving me hell all week. Ky added in a bit of relaxation massage to keep me happy whilst skilfully working the knots out of my shoulders. Tala's Hair and Beauty 

Tala's is a fairly new addition to Soho’s hair and beauty scene. With its flagship in Sai Kung, the Shelley Street centre (next to Cicada restaurant) has a low-key, friendly and welcoming vibe. And get this, the hair stylist and manicurist actually listened to what I wanted – a two and half inch trim only and a painless manicure sans butchered cuticles. Two hours later and I’m delighted with my hair and seriously impressed with Krishna – Tala's manicurist. I was also pleasantly surprised by the cost – prices range between $490 - $690 (minus 10% for first time customers) for a ladies haircut plus blow dry and $290 - $400 for men.
