Part I:
The Tipping Point

The first talk will examine the role and importance of "social power" in creating change. We are familiar with the importance of political power and economic power as levers of transformation. But we pay far too little attention to the importance of relationships and interpersonal influence.
In this talk Gladwell will look at the kind of people who hold this kind of soical power -- and the kinds of strategies that can used to enhance their inlfuence.

Part II:
Understanding The Financial Crisis

The financial crisis of the past 18 months has prompted a far-reaching examination of what exactly went wrong and how we can best prevent a crisis like this in the future. Using examples drawn from military history and decision-making, Gladwell argues that this crisis represents a particular kind of expert failure, brought on by overconfidence. The talk will focus on what the roots and consequences of over-confidence are, and how we might best counteract it.
