Gimme Gimme Less...

Common keywords in text inbox several hours before an event/party: what, will, you, wear?

Often, the big worry is that one would either be overdressed and underdressed. Perfectly reasonable. Of course, we would all like to put on that sassy air and said 'I love to be sleek when everyone's slack and slack when everyone's sleek', or say, put on a red dress at a Black and White party. But truth is, most of the time, rather than making a headline-worthy style statement, we just want to be – well, tasteful.

Taste is the first thing to learn once a person starts wondering about the fabrics and chains and ornaments hanging from his/her reflecting frame. Taste is before style, as walk is before run. Taste’s mortal enemy is vulgarity. Vulgarity to the extreme could be stylish, if and only if your skinny limbs are sprawled across some artsy high-end fashion spread, or you’re cool like Beth Ditto.

If not, do the baby walk first – stick to rule number one, the rule you all know: less is more.

It’s as simple as it could get, the more you put on, the more it could go wrong. This applies to rings, neck pieces, hats, earrings, bracelets, bangles, glitter (as in, anything that glitters or sparkles), belts, collars, makeup, hair clip, brooch… basically, anything other than the subjects you were born with.

Then, you could add, experiment, play around with the rule. Find the loopholes.

Or, be a rebel, ignore it all together. We’ll be there to see who trips and who soars.
