Escaping Hong Kong

Sometimes I feel like the only way to deal with life in Hong Kong is to get out at least once every two months. Most expats would agree with me. Hong Kong is so small, sometimes it feels like a suffocating little village where everyone knows everyone and you can’t walk two blocks without seeing your ex on a date with one of your friends.  It’s the same places, the same faces and it can get tiresome.

Luckily it’s easy to escape Hong Kong and be somewhere really different and interesting within a few hours. Hence, I decided to expand my travel section for those Hong Kongers bitten by the wanderlust bug. Recently, I’ve been busy traveling and creating design-oriented travel guides to neighboring getaway spots. These are the guides I’ve written for Bangkok and Singapore and I’m working on one for Ko Samui, which will come out very soon.

I highly recommend Ko Samui as a getaway to decompress from life in Hong Kong. There’s a great detox place on Lamai called Spa Samui where you fast, do colonics and yoga. There’s a Muay Thai boxing gym right across the street and an awesome new place called Beach Republic where you can hang out at the pool for the price of a drink. Also check out my fave beach which is nearby Lamai called “Silver Beach”.
