ABOUT "EIGHT HIGH RES EVENINGS"
Photography Appreciation Series

Joyce Is Not Here Artists Bar and Cafe is pleased to present tuesday nights photographers talks, hosted by Evangelo Costadimas. "Eight High Res Evening" is a series of lectures and videos followed by stimulating group discussions with the aim of providing a better understanding to photography as a medium as well as photography’s place in the visual art domain. All of this in a casual and relaxed atmosphere made possible by this cozy bar and coffee house.

Each of the eight evenings will focus on a specific topic, an important photographer’s work or a genre of photography from an art historical perspective. The aim is to provide the participants a basic understanding of the art and expression of photography, and gain a better insight into what are the elements that make for a good photograph. Those who are also active photographers will find these sessions helpful in understanding their own practice and how to develop further as photography practitioners and in particular, benefit from the ensuing discussions after each lecture and video presentations.

Selected topics and photographers include:

- Alfred Stieglitz Edward Steichen and the Pictorialists, Eugene Smith, James Nachtwey, Annie Leibowitz, Richard Avedon, Helmut Newton, Nobuyoshi Araki, Nan Goldin, Sophie Calle, Hiroshi Sugimoto, Sarah Moon and others...
